Elections Canada chief won't back down on veiled voting

Elections Canada has decided to stick with their decision to allow veiled women to participate in the polls despite Primeminister Harper's disagreement.

While others may disagree, I believe that Harper's complaint is in fact a valid one.  Even though Canada is extremely multicultural, common sense and security measures should still be put into play. I can also understand Election Canada's decision with Canada being what it
is, a very multicultural country.

Personally, I disagree with your comment Weiss. I think that these people are all Canadian citizens and are legal citizens. There should be no discrimination like this. By saying that people who wear a veiled, is like saying that people who like wearing baseball caps, can't vote. It shouldn't matter what you wear, if you are of a legal age, and a Canadian citizen you should have the right to vote.

One issue that both Mike and Dan are missing is the fact that this is an almost absolete issue. I remember reading about the fact that for years, women who wear a niqab, or a veil, remove it to have their driver's license photo taken and many other things. What I am trying to say is that Harper has not complained about a viable issue, he has simply overlooked the fact that these women or people wearing veils will gladly remove their niqabs. Sarah Elgazzar, who is on the council for American-Islamic Relations Canada stated the move for Harper to force people to remove their veils was not necessary. Once again, our parlimentary system has simply gone after an easily solved issue with much vigour, while they leave more serious issues unsolved.
